Friendship day

Have you ever been in a situation where someone said "happy friendship day!", and you thought of yourself, "What is a "friendship day"?"

Yes this article wants to start with  this question and here is the easy answer :

Well, Friendship Day is exactly what it sounds like: a day for celebrating your friendships

We should all have at least one friend, one person we can trust and always count on.

“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.”

Tennessee Williams

We must be honest and realistic, fortunately, most of the people we know, as well as ourselves, have at least one friend but we can not forget about lonely people without even a person to refer to in life.

Many of us are surrounded by many people, we know dozens of men and women who for one reason or another have become part of our lives. But it is always very difficult to find people who can be considered friends.

If we become part of these lucky people who can boast of true friendships, we can celebrate them during the International Day of Friendship to be held next July 30.

But what is the origin of this celebration?

As you know, the main headquarters of beyondBeanie is located in Bolivia, well we should not go too far to find the origins of this international day.

One evening in July 1958 Dr. Ramón Artemio Bracho, during a dinner with his colleagues in Puerto Pinasco, PARAGUAY Bracho proposed to them the idea of a World Day of Friendship. On that night, next to the foundation of the World Crusade of Friendship organization (originally called Cruzada Mundial de la Amistad), a campaign was adopted as the official Day of Friendship in favor of the enhancement and enhancement of friendship among human beings, in a way that allows you to promote the culture of peace on July 30.

Dr. Bracho firmly believes that friendship is fundamental to overcoming cultural, political and religious barriers between people around the world.

On 27 July 2011, the United Nations General Assembly finally recognized this date to celebrate International Day of Friendship worldwide: on the occasion of International Day of Friendship, the UN encourages governments, organizations and community groups to organize events, activities and initiatives that promote solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

However, in some countries the celebrations of Friendship Day are repeated on different dates.

In Paraguay, this celebration is seen as a popular holiday where it is customary to greet one another and wish one another happiness throughout the day by exchanging gifts.

Another classic activity during this celebration, especially among young students, but also among other general groups (collaborators, companies, civil organizations, etc.), is the game of "invisible friend", a variation of the popular game of "Secret Santa Claus".

A week before the event, participants write down their names on a piece of paper, mix all the pieces in a basket and then retrieve one of the names without revealing it; thus, they become the "invisible friend" of the person on the piece of paper.

During the week before the celebration, they are invited to write small notes or letters to the selected person. On the day of the celebration, invisible friends bring gifts and, one after the other, reveal their identity before giving gifts to their new friends.

There is also another version that explains how Friendship Day was born

The idea for Friendship Day was given by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards in the year 1930. Earlier, it was proposed to celebrate Friendship Day on August 2 by sending greeting cards and other items such as festive celebrations. The idea was further promoted by the National Association of Greeting Cards during the 1920s, but was not taken in a healthy spirit as it reflected the commercial expedient to promote greeting cards in the name of Friendship Day.

International Friendship Day is celebrated in different styles depending on the country and culture of the people involved. Some choose to hold parties where they gather with their friends and share a meal while reliving some of their memories. In other parts, people give each other gifts that often convey gratitude through symbolism, something that friends remember from each other. In addition to parties, others take their time to go camping in the wild with friends for a day and create even better memories and most campsites usually offer discounts at this time of year to allow people to fully enjoy their time with their friends. In some countries large parades are held in public spaces where all people are invited to come and spend the day outdoors with friends at no cost, and can participate in events and games, as well as attend free public concerts.

Here are some neat facts about Friendship Day that encourage those who celebrate it to keep doing so in honor of their friends:

  • Those who celebrate Friendship Day like to do so by exchanging small trinkets as gifts, like accessories, wristbands, flowers, or cards. This is a sweet way to acknowledge a friend by promoting a quiet gesture, rather than a grandiose display
  • The Beatles' song "With a Little Help from My Friends" was released in 1967 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of International Friendship Day.
  • In 1998, Winnie the Pooh was declared the official ambassador of Friendship Day by Nane Annan, the wife of Kofi Annan, who was the UN Secretary General at the time.
  • In 1999 in Memphis, Tennessee, the Kappa Delta Sorority put a new spin on Friendship Day by initiating National Women's Friendship Day, which is celebrated on the third Sunday in September to recognize specifically a woman's female friends.
  • Studies have shown that friends are a great form of stress relief. When a person has healthy friendships, he or she is less likely to succumb to illness and disease or, conversely, is more likely to heal faster when he or she does get sick

LET US NEVER FORGET HOW IMPORTANT A FRIENDSHIP IS
