BOLIVIA: HOME TO MORE THAN 20 THOUSAND SPECIES OF PLANTS

With approximately 20 thousand species of native plants with seeds, not including ferns, mosses, algae, Bolivia occupies the tenth place in the world and the sixth in South America in plant wealth.

Bolivia is a megadiverse country, rich in diversity of species and ecosystems. There are regions in which collections have not yet been made, the diversity of plant species they have is unknown.

There are 607 species with some degree of threat (among trees, shrubs and some herbaceous plants) and in Cochabamba there are 164 threatened species. Of which five are in the critically endangered category; 76, in danger; 70, in the vulnerable category, and 13, in almost threatened.

At a general level, the flora has three types of values: utilitarian (because it need food to live), ecosystem (purifies the air, retains water, houses birds, etc.) and aesthetic (nice to look at).

This month we celebrate the World Wildlife Day and the International Day of Forests. Don´t miss the special Wildlife Consevation and Save the Rainforest bracelet packs that will help us maintain Bolivia’s rich plant and wildlife!
